Nintendo DS Vs Nintendo DS Lite Video Game Consoles

If you already own a Nintendo DS do you really need to buy a new Nintendo DS Lite? Just like new computers, cars, and digital cameras, it seems like Nintendo is always coming out with new video game consoles to replace the old ones. If you still enjoy playing video games on your old DS you probably don’t need to invest in anything new. However, if you don’t already own either hand-held game console you’ll definitely want to buy a DS Lite instead.

So what’s the difference? When many people say “Nintendo DS” they often mean “Nintendo DS Lite” even though the two video game consoles are completely different. This can be a little confusing especially if you don’t know much about video game systems and are looking to buy a gift for a friend or loved one.

The Nintendo DS was released in 2004 and the Lite version followed in 2006. The DS Lite is more or less a smaller, sleeker, and more durable version of the original DS console. If you’d like to buy a Nintendo DS Lite and are looking for good deals online make sure the prices you find match up to the type of console you want to buy. It doesn’t make sense for you to spend hours online looking for a good deal on an older DS video game console when a DS Lite is what you really want to buy.

Most people who own both video game consoles say that the screen is noticeably brighter on the DS Lite. The brightness can also be adjusted which can come in handy if you play in different environments. The screen on the new DS also seems to be a bit more resistant to scratches. Owners of the old Nintendo DS claim that after a lot of play time on their unit scratches could be seen. The newer DS unit also features a stylus that’s a little different than the original so that also could be a reason why less scratches are noticed.

You’ll also notice a spot on the new DS where you can keep your stylus safe when not in use. You can also play Game Boy Advance games with the DS Lite which comes with a phony game cartridge to keep the extra slot free of random bits of debris that would otherwise damage your console. You can find lots of used Game Boy Advance games for sale and this extends the collection of games available for you to play on the unit.
