Patapon2 is a brand new game which has been officially released on PSP. Patapon2 is the sequel to last year’s well-reviewed rhythm-warfare-strategy game. Sony is testing the water of the download only market. I think this is pretty exciting, you can get large enough SD card for a small amount now. This will mean games developers creating games which require bigger storage, hence PS3 style games and grahpics for PSP addicts.

Sony is losing a lot of money through pirated games download sites, such as the site linked below, but why not join the bandwagon. Digital downloads is the way the entire gaming industry is going and Sony are just trying to play catchup. I think publishers would rather have games downloaded from official websites. Actually, publishers dislike the resale market due to the tight profit margins.

You can always download Patapon2 from the PlayStation Store for twenty Dollars or for free from the site below when you’ve paid a small membership fee. Its awesome to have Sony take a great game like Patapon and launch its sequel as a UMD-free download. It is likely to get people who have never purchased a game in the PSP PlayStation store to try it out with Patapon. There are going to be Patapon 2 boxes sold at stores but they are going to contain download codes.

So, what’s the game like to play? The Patapon sequel has improved upon its cousin. Patapon is a intelligent warfare simulator, but lots of fun. This version has more character classes, a well-explained evolution tree for the Patapon warriors which you bring to life, and a new warning system for when your rhythm attacks begin to fall out of sync. One negative is the load times were not as quick as usual.
