Leveling up Your personality
when you level up your personality, you will get access to better and larger loot, items, and collection. Doing so also provides you with additional talent points, making you not just more effective but also more deadly. There are three basic character types in Mafia Wars :
The Mogul character type has increased cash flow with cash coming in every fifty four minutes instead of every hour. A mogul is also the only character type that can be a Top Mafia Bagman. If assigned to be a Top Mafia Bagman in a friend's mafia you have the chance to earn double the money from performing jobs.
The Maniac character type has increased energy regeneration with a new energy point being awarded every 3 minutes instead of every 5 minutes. A maniac is also the only character type that can be a Top Mafia Button man. If assigned to be a Top Mafia Button man in a friend’s mafia you have the chance to automatically win any fight that you initiate.
The Fearless character type has increased health regeneration. A Fearless character is also the only character type that can be a Top Mafia Wheelman. If assigned to be a Top Mafia Wheelman in a friend's mafia you have the chance to complete jobs without spending any energy.
Changing your character type:
Changing your character type is not an available option. If you need to change your character type you will need to reset your character and start over.
Resetting your character:
Unfortunately we are unable to manually reset your character. A reset is possible, however it can only be achieved by removing the application for a 90 day period.
If you re-install the application at any time during this 90 day period, the time frame will automatically restart. After the 90 day period is over your character will be deleted, which allows you to start over.
So never leave your game idle for 3 months.. you will have to start over!

The questions “How did I lose?!" sometimes has a very straight forward answer or takes some analysis. The exact formula used is up for much debate and Zynga isn't talking. We will not debate the formula here. But basically there are 3 main factors to the outcome of a fight: Your attack & defense skills, your mafia's size, and your Mafia Attack and Defense strength.
This guide will focus on when you attack someone, not when someone attacks you. I hope this guide will help some people understand the success or shortcomings of their combat build.
Definitions
Attack Skill: The attack power that can be increased with skill points. On your home page and profile page this will show the base number you have added to the stat with your skill points, and the bonuses from collections. On the fight screens and inventory screen this number will include your Top Mafia Button man bonus & occasionally the highest attack skill boosts you have acquired.
Defense Skill: The defense power that be increased with skill points. On your home page and profile page this will show the base number you have added to the stat with your skill points, and the bonuses from collections. On the fight screens and inventory screen this number will include your Top Mafia Bodyguard bonus and occasionally the highest defense skill boosts you have.
Tip: Some people follow the advice to keep both their attack skill and defense skill at least 2x their level each.
Mafia Attack Strength: This is the addition of the attack stat of all your weapons, vehicles, and armors up to 501 of each. This number only takes into account the attack amount of the items. Items are picked from highest to lowest up to the number of mafia you have for each category. This number only increases when you add an item that is more stronger than one you already have, or if you add another mafia member who can use items you already possess. The number will usually increase by the difference between the item replaced and the item added.
Mafia Defense Strength equals the addition of the attack stat of all your weapons, vehicles, and armors up to 501. This number only takes into account the defensive value of the items. Items are chosen from highest to lowest up to the number of mafia you have for each category. This number only increases when you add an item that is more powerful than one you already have, or if you add another mafia member who can use items you already possess. The number will usually goo up by the difference between the item replaced and the item added.
I provide the above definitions so we know what we are talking about as the guide goes on. If I say attack or defense skill I’m talking skill points, if I say strength I am referring to the inventory and loot items. They need to be distinquished from each other.

Mafia Wars is one of those games that requires very careful planning and a keen eye for detail if you’re serious about landing the highest level rewards and truly performing well against fellow players. However, for a game that seems so relatively simple to get into, the game holds a tremendous amount of depth, which can make that planning relatively hard. So, here are five things you should keep in mind as you get started:
Your Family Size
If you’re serious about winning, build your family size up as quickly as possible. This means from level 1 you should be out there recruiting heavily. If you wait until you’re Level 100, you’ll spend countless extra hours trying to make things work without actually having a gameplan. Use Facebook, contact your friends, use your blog. Whatever tools are at your disposal should be used carefully to build that family size up.
Your Godfather Points
You need Godfather points, but you should be careful about how you get them. Some people willingly spend cash or give away their personal data to get them and there’s no reason. Rather, you can spend just a few minutes each day filling out your lottery numbers, and using fake information for offers and get all the Godfather points you need.
Completing Jobs
Complete your jobs as quickly as you can and with the most possible rewards. The key here though is to remember that you need to scale up your jobs as you level and to do a diverse range of them to get all the possible rewards so that later on, you will have all the jobs available to you.
Buying Properties
Buy properties, starting with the easiest to attain. You’ll find that as the properties break down, you need to spend money to keep them up, so don’t waste any time buying properties that are not going to give a solid return on their investment.
Fighting Your Enemies
Fighting your fellow players in Mafia Wars is more or less pointless and wastes your resources. Rather, you should focus on building your levels, getting more points and recruiting new family members. If you do that with the time you have each day, you’ll be much more successful in the long run.
If you follow the details outlined above, you’ll do much better in Mafia Wars than you ever thought possible. It’s a simple matter of being careful with the time you have to spend and analyzing how you invest everything carefully.
