There’s been tie-in movie video games pretty much as long as there have been the means to play video and computer games. Whilst many of them have been decent, the majority have been somewhat lacking in essentially every manner that made the feature films they were based around special. Currently, thankfully there is a great selection of movie video games out to get into- a few of which might well be much better than the films themselves!

First of all there’s the tie-in movie video game based on X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This all-action game is remarkably hugely better than the Wolverine movie itself! Created by Raven Software, the game features a rather different plot to the popular film, but it does contain Hugh Jackman’s voice and visual likeness. The game features all of Wolverine’s attributes, which are utlilized in a cool way- especially his healing power.

As far as Marvel games go, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie video game is very violent, as you’ll notice from the battlefield decorated with decimated cadavers and other lovely things. Well, Wolverine definitely has claws. Here you are able to make him use them to their optimum horrific effect.

Next there is the awesome video game based on Terminator Salvation, the fourth film in the apocalyptic cyborg science fiction adventure film franchise. Where the third film Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines and its movie video game version were excruciatingly bad, this appears to be going in tandem with the exciting new direction of the new movie and is fantastic to look at and play. Here’s a notable example of how movie video games are getting better a huge amount lately.

Now thanks to two-player co-operative gameplay, the Terminator universe is catching up with other games such as mega-hit Gears of War franchise, permitting for some serious split-screen battles to be played out. Merge this with the beautifully rendered distopian future world that the movie video game happens in, which you can use to your full advantage when playing the video game, and you have one compelling prospect for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

The highly anticipated Ghostbusters movie video game is something that is causing a huge hubbub. With the revelation that the third Ghostbusters movie is finally going to be made, 20 years after the first Ghostbusters sequel came out, now is the great time to remind yourself of the classic Ghostbusters characters and scenes. Let’s face it, that 1st film is an absolute classic in every sense of the term, and finally there’s a movie video game that does it the justice it deserves.

The story of the new Ghostbusters game was written by Harold Ramis and Dan Ackroyd, the writers (and stars) of the classic first two Ghostbusters movies, so the game may even be canon to a certain extent. The classic original four Ghostbusters movie characters have been recreated as fantastic digital interpretations of the actors, and the whole game looks fantastic. All of your character’s vital readings are shown on your Proton pack, giving this movie video game a somewhat similar atmosphere to Dead Space. With all of the classic creatures showing up in the game, fans will be thrilled when they get hold of it for their DS, PS3, PC, Xbox 360 or Wii.

Following on from so many lacking movie video game tie-ins, it seems that the new titles that are being released are being made with much more of an eye on for the source material and also what fans demand out of a movie video game based on their favourite titles. These are some of the best movie video games out right now, and hopefully they’ll help you unleash a vibrant new level of fun from your favourite films.

Despite the brand new Marvel film X-men Origins: Wolverine garnering something of a lukewarm critical response (not to mention a whole lot of negativity from the die-hard Marvel comics addicts), the official Wolverine video game seems like it may well be the most awesome comic book feature film tie-in-game in a rather long time. Despite the movie screwing with established continuity lots, the makers of the licensed X-men Origins: Wolverine movie video game have taken it upon themselves to get hold of the original source material and devise something impressive out of the chaotic mix of a film. They’ve done a pretty good job, too. The end results are there for you all to enjoy for yourself in the new Wolverine video game on the Playstation 3, Xbox and Wii.

A Wolverine video game has never really managed to recreate those unique characteristics that legions of comics enthusiasts have adored for years. However, the official new X-men Origins: Wolverine video game does seem to hit the mark, which is impressive seeing as the film itself appears to have been a massive screw-up. This could be a very rare occurrence indeed- a licensed video game that is actually better than the feature film it is based upon.

The first thing you’ll take on board is the intense combat system the game offers. It does capture some of the adrenaline-fuelled action that being the Wolverine character would allow you. His mutant healing factor adds another element to events too, and it is cool to see a mainstay of his comic book and movie incarnation managed so well by the Wolverine video game developers. Logan’s powers in this particular Wolverine video game constantly heal themselves as you receive damage, but you’ll need to take cover and rejuvenate if your life energy is sapped too much.

With increasingly intimidating adversaries to fight throughout the game, it becomes a more and more intense experience the more you play the game. Boasting impressive visuals and audio, it does dump you into the midst of the adventure, and with so many X-Men comic characters turning up throughout this Wolverine video game, there is a huge amount to keep fans energized. Another decent feature of the game-play is the ability to focus on certain aspects of Wolverine’s mutant senses by using the control pad, allowing you spot bad guys, exits and more that you could otherwise miss.

As an overall game, the X-Men Origins: Wolverine video game is a great success, offering you all the thrills of the Wolverine film with added characteristics that the feature film lacks. With awesome, beautiful visuals and powerful sound design, the game really gets you into the character and his berserker rage, and is a more than welcome addition to the number of Marvel movies tie-in games. The new Wolverine video game is superb, Bub.
