The bummer is that you chose a Mafia Wars character classification before you knew much about Mafia Wars strategy or Mafia Wars leveling. Unfortunately, you can’t switch your Mafia Wars character pick anymore. There once was a way to change Mafia Wars character type by paying Godfather points, but that opportunity has been eliminated.
Rumors abound that Mafia Wars programmers at Zynga will bring back that character changing option, but for now we are saddled with that initial choice. Although I’m surprised Zynga doesn’t reintroduce the character change option, because they could rake in tons of Godfather points. I know several of Mafia Wars gamers who would be glad to pay Godfather points to have a new character. It’s not like Zynga to leave money on the table.
As things stand currently, you are what you are as far as Mafia Wars character type. These are the three character options in Mafia Wars:
Mogul
Maniac
Fearless
Associated with each character is 1 primary benefit, a top mafia spot, and a bonus power. Check out| the Mafia Wars character descriptions individually so you can grasp the leveling debate that comes after.
Mafia Wars Mogul Character
Primary benefit: Gets the 60 minute take every fifty four minutes.
Top Mafia position: Bagman
Bonus power: If you are promoted into Bagman in another’s crew, you sometimes rake in 2xs the money on jobs
Character: Mafia Wars Maniac
Primary benefit: Energy rebuilds at 1 point every three minutes, rather than 1 point every 5
Top Mafia position: Button Man
Unique power: When you occupy the Buttonman spot in another gamer’s crew, you can attack a Mafia Wars player with superior stats, crew size, and equipment and sometimes win the fight regardless.
Character: Fearless
Primary benefit: Health rebuilds faster - one point every 2 minutes rather than one every three.
Top Mafia position: Wheelman
Bonus Power: When a fearless occupies the Wheelman spot in another player’s crew, a Fearless can complete a certain percentage of jobs without expending.
Most Mafia Wars strategists agree that the Mogul character doesn’t assist a player to level up more quickly in job-based leveling. A Mogul has perks in Mafia Wars income because of the extra 2.4 hours of income they get every twenty four hours. And that’s nothing to dismiss during about the first 25 Mafia Wars levels when earnings are low. However, players usually have their Mafia Wars money problems ironed out early on, so earning a regular day’s income isn’t a challenge for most. That makes the Mogul character’s major benefit a bit useless before you get to far up the leveling ladder.
Even with Mogul eliminated, there is lots of disagreement about whether Fearless or Maniac is the better character for Mafia Wars strategy in speed leveling. Here’s how the debate goes:
The Pro Maniac Side
Since energy is what earns that experience to get you leveled up, Maniac is the best Mafia Wars character for leveling. Energy is the name of the game in Mafia Wars. And although the Maniac’s intermittent power doesn’t help you much once you achieve a certain level and only attack when you know you can win the fight anyway, the energy recovery of the Maniac is always helping you level faster. So Maniac is the quickest leveling character to choose.
Arguments in Favor of Fearless
The superior Mafia Wars leveling character is Fearless. While speedy health recovery is deemed a worthless quality by many, the intermittent power of doing some jobs at no energy cost is so beneficial that speedy leveling is a lock for Fearless. The leveling strategy only works if someone puts you into their top mafia Wheelman spot, which can be a hard sell since your character may be inexperienced. As a Wheelman, you will complete 6-11% of your jobs completed with paying any energy points. Leveling up while in Wheelman will go much faster. That Fearless power means even more as you climb the tiers and jobs cost more and more energy. Fearless’ health regeneration actually is somewhat more valuable as you level up, because when you get to Cuba your health will take a dive! That makes Fearless’ health benefit a bigger asset after level 35.
So, what’s the conclusion - is Fearless or Maniac the best leveling character in Mafia Wars? Each character has merit, but I believe Fearless is the choice that gets you to the top fastest when you strategize it right. Either character will get you to the top spot, but what the arguments highlight is one main Mafia Wars strategy point. The most critical element of Mafia Wars when you want to level up with speed is energy managment. Whether you regain your energy more rapidly or don’t have to spend energy on certain jobs, you can see that leveling is about Mafia Wars energy.
The bad news is that you are saddled with the Mafia Wars character you picked on that first day. The positive news is that you can always improve your Mafia Wars strategy, no matter what character type, by using better strategy for energy. Another avenue is to open another Facebook profile you use just for a Mafia Wars speed level up character. You can still use your current Mafia Wars character to promote your new character into top spots, run preparation jobs, and gift items to your new character, too! Just don’t get so many characters going that you can’t keep track (yeah, don’t get me started on that story!
